Facebook-Native-Share-Dialog-iOSAt its event last month Facebook showed us a native Share Dialog as part of its Facebook SDK 3.5 for iOS update, and today Facebook announced on its blog that the feature is now available to developers.

Now officially out of beta, the native Share Dialog will allow developers to implement easier sharing features into their apps using a single line of code. Facebook said it provides “a lightweight and consistent way to enable sharing from your apps,” allowing users to share data from apps without first having to login into Facebook. The result is the elimination of 1 – 3 extra steps required for login when sharing via the feed dialog and an experience similar to using a Facebook Like button.

The Share Dialog further improves upon the iOS 6 share sheet by adding support for publishing Open Graph actions to make it easier for people to tell their stories on mobile. In addition, people can now tag friends and share where they are enabling them to share in a more meaningful and engaging way, while helping even more people connect with your app.

The new native Share Dialog and more is available to developers now through Facebook SDK for iOS 3.5.

AT&T Will Let Any iPhone Or iPad Use FaceTime Over Cellular By Mid-June

If you're an AT&T customer, you'll need a certain plan to enjoy this with a data connection.

Since it was revealed that FaceTime over Cellular was coming to iOS 6 last summer, AT&T has been gradually rolling out the feature to different segments of its subscriber base.

At first, you had to be on a “Mobile Share” plan, and then it was opened up to LTE iOS devices on a traditional tiered plan. Back in January, AT&T gave everyone access except subscribers with grandfathered unlimited plans.

Now FaceTime over Cellular on AT&T will be available to all iOS device owners, including those with unlimited data, by next month.

Today AT&T announced an update to its pre-loaded video chat app policy (emphasis added):

For video chat apps that come pre-loaded on devices, we currently give all OS and device makers the ability for those apps to work over cellular for our customers who are on Mobile Share or Tiered plans. Apple, Samsung and BlackBerry have chosen to enable this for their pre-loaded video chat apps. And by mid-June, we’ll have enabled those apps over cellular for our unlimited plan customers who have LTE devices from those three manufacturers.

Throughout the second half of this year, we plan to enable pre-loaded video chat apps over cellular for all our customers, regardless of data plan or device; that work is expected to be complete by year end.

Today, all of our customers can use any mobile video chat app that they download from the Internet, such as Skype.

FaceTime over Cellular can be enabled by opening the Settings app and navigating to FaceTime > Use Cellular Data.

Tumblr, which was purchased by Yahoo today for a cool $1.1 billion, received an update for iPhone and iPad today that introduces a new post type chooser that resembles fan stacks on the dock in OS X but still includes a 17+ rating. The update also includes attributing app sources to posts shared on Tumblr. This update doesn’t seem to reflect any changes from Yahoo as the social blogging platform was just acquired this morning.

What’s New in Version 3.3.2

A couple of cool updates for iPhone and iPad:
- Fancy new post type chooser
- App attribution on posts

The update is available now on the App Store.

busy Apple Store

Not only are Apple Stores some of the most popular retail stores on the planet, they’re also the most successful. This year Apple Stores have continued to outpace the entire industry, and as a result Apple is now making more money per visitor than ever before.

According to some analysis by Horace Dediu at Asymco, last quarter the number of Apple Store visitors grew 7%, and as a result Apple earned a record of $57.60 in revenue from each visitor.

Thanks to the boost in foot traffic and spending, the average revenue per Apple Store per quarter rose up to $13 million per store, which is the highest non-holiday quarter Apple’s ever had.

With employment steady around 110 employees at Apple Stores, the average number of visitors per store per quarter rose to 250,000 this year. That number was only 170,000 per store just three years ago.

Dediu speculates that the increase might be a result of increased floor space in new Apple Stores along with renovations on older stores.
